If you are running Windows 8 on your old PC which has no touchscreen. There is not much of a reason to see the Start screen when you log on. Most likely you are using the desktop most of the time and want to boot directly to it and bypass the Start screen.
Set Task Scheduler to Boot Windows 8 Directly to Desktop:
You need to type task scheduler and click on its icon under the search results. After that Task Scheduler will open on your desktop. Here you have to click on Create Basic Task under Actions in the left panel.
Now give a name to the task like BootToDesk and entering a description is optional. Now Click on Next.
Now you have to set the Trigger to When I Log On and then click on Next.
Set the Action to Start a Program then click on Next.
For the Program or Script you have to type %systemroot%\explorer.exe then click on Next, after that to close out of Task Scheduler you just click Finish.
Now when you start your system again and log in the Start screen will display on your desktop.
If still you face any kind of problem then go for windows 8 help support.
